about

The first flamenco chord I ever learned was the typical opening of a Tarantas. A flamenco palo, or style, that originated in the Andalusian province of Almería. Tarantas is a cante libre (or tocque libre, if played as a solo), meaning that it lacks both a regular rhythmic pattern (compás, in flamenco terminology) and a regular rhythmic unit (or beat). It can be sung or played, but not danced. Hence it can be extremely lyrical, free and great to improvise on, which large parts of this one are.

Since I am just back from a trip where I was literally staying in the vineyards of a fine wine maker, I call this one "An Evening In The Garden Of Dionysus". The cover picture I took right there.

Also, upon sentiment, since my parents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary (Gold!) yesterday, I play this one on a different guitar: a Marín, Modelo Estudio /9 Calidad, built in 1997 from Malaga, Spain, which my parents brought me from Spain as a gift since I was just learning flamenco then.

This one is for my parents...

And I hope you'll enjoy this one too...

about

Daniel van den Berg Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Architect/partner by profession I find myself playing guitar and writing these tracks in afterhours, at nights, evenings, when in need of a dose of guitar sounds.

I have been playing guitar since I was 11 years old, largely self-taught and have tried different styles and instruments, Renaissance lute, Flamenco, Classical guitar and fusion.
